Another one of those cursed stories! Arg! But also, fun reminiscing about games we played when we were kids. This question is inspired by the Jerry Apps book Rural Wit and Wisdom

Today, it's the games we play or, more correctly, the games we played way back when.

That, and all the usual stuff on this episode of Stay Awake While Driving. My name is Sarah. You are driving. Enough with this introduction. Let's just get started!

At the end of the episode, I'm going to tell you why I chose this category of things for the five word challenge today. To begin. Five words that you need to memorize by the end of the episode point for each one you do, and if you figure out what they do have in common, Tah dah! Another extra bonus point for you. It's just that easy. The first word is DIG. Next Word, KITCHEN. Third word, PADDLE. Fourth word, DINK. The fifth word is FALAFEL. Oh, I didn't look up how to spell that one, because I'm a terrible speller. Hang on. Oh, I was. Right. FALAFEL. So we have dig, kitchen, paddle, dink, falafel, and we will come back to these later in the episode.

We've done a couple of these now. I'm going to read a story to you, a short story, and then you are going to have to try and remember as many details as you can, because then there will be a quiz afterwards on those details. The last story I did was created by perplexity AI, and I asked Perplexity AI to write a different story, a Crime Story. And if you listen to the last story, see if if you can find some similarities. It's kind of funny how AI just sort of switched up… anyway. Here we go. “In a small, crime ridden city, a young detective named Lily was determined to bring down a notorious gang that had been terrorizing the streets. As she delved deeper into the case, she uncovered a web of corruption and deceit that reached the highest levels of power. Lily’s relentless pursuit of justice put her life in danger, but she refused to back down. With the help of her trusted partner, she gathered enough evidence to bring the gang’s leader to justice. In the end, Lily’s dedication and bravery paid off, and the city was finally free from the grip of organized crime.”

Great story umm. Anyway, this is AI's version of a Crime Story. In 100 words, if you'd like to listen to it again to really sink those details into your brain, I have put a chapter marker at the beginning of the story so you can go back and do that again if your podcast platform supports chapters. Otherwise, I'm going to quiz you. Right. Exactly now.

What is the name of the main character in this story? Lily, again with Lily. AI's first story, had Lily as the main character as well.

What kind of city does Lilly live in? How is it described? Few adjectives here. It's small and crime ridden.

How did Lilly bring the gang leader to justice? She gathered enough evidence to bring the gangs leader to justice. Enough evidence if that was your answer. You get a point. It's not a very satisfying story, but...

Because Lily was able to do this... her home city was finally free from...? The grip of organized crime.

What is the name of Lily's partner? Trick question. We don't know. It just says with the help of her trusted partner, she gathered enough evidence. Way to go, partner. You helped gather enough evidence, we just don't know your name.

There you go. Good job. A point for each of those you got correct.

Today for a memory prompt, we're going to do another one from Rural Wit and Wisdom from Jerry Apps. What games did you play at school and at home? Any stories associated with these games? So we're going to say they could be physical games. Like kickball out at recess on the playground. Or it doesn't? Even have to. Be a team sport, it could be. Game. It could be something you did. Played by yourself? Like where you created the rules, or really had an obsession with tic tac toe, not tic tac toe. What's a hopscotch? You know something I don't know. Anyway, it can be. Something that you did just alone as well. Have I told you about the? Person I knew that made-up games of solitaire and combined all these decks of cards they had around the house and played these really elaborate games that they had come up with. It could be. Something like that, remember. All the details you can't you remember the rules. Tell me a list of the rules. Do you remember what kind of? If it was a a game with the involved the ball, do you remember? What type of ball did it stay? In the store and shed at. School. I remember playing kickball out on the the playground and it. Was always that red. Red rubber ball and it smelled like rubber. Did you only play it in the summer when the snow fell? If you live somewhere where there's snow, did. That hamper that type of game and you had to put the ball away until spring. And how did you? Feel about that. All of those feelings and details, if you need help with a prompt from me, I will tell you just a couple of sad examples because I never really played team sports, I did as. I alluded to I. Played kick ball a little bit, but really mostly I was on the sidelines watching nobody ever picked me in gym class. I was the last person ever picked. We did play this game on the swings where we were run out to the swings and whoever got a swing first got to swing all recess long. Now I have such motion sickness, I can't. Do that at all. And then at home, we would not play a lot of board games. We're not a huge board game family, but we did play a lot of cards, tons of crazy. It's and Uno and King's corner. I remember fondly doing those sorts of games around the table. So. You could even. Include card games with family, with extended family. Or maybe you just did it at holidays. Who played ohh? We did play a board game and it was clue. And we would play it at my grandma's house on my mom's side of the. Family because my uncle really liked. It now it is your turn if you haven't finished telling me stories of your games, put me on pause and. Please do so now. Here's a review quickly of the five Word Challenge today. Remember, you're memorizing these guys. The words are dig. Paddle **** and falafel. I have to say, if you don't know anything about this category, you're going to think those 5 words sound crazy. Remember to put me on pause and. Say these crazy words. To yourself, over and over a few times to really get them to sink in and dig kitchen paddle. ****. Falafel. Let's do some trivia. What was the name of the first space shuttle to be retired? Which was the first one to be retired when they discontinued the program? Atlantis. Atlantis. What's the name of the first movie to gross over $1 billion U.S. dollars worldwide? Which movie first won to gross over $1 billion worldwide? I'll give you multiple choice if you'd. Like Titanic Avatar or The Avengers avatar avatar. What's the name of the first video game to sell over 100 million copies and I'll give you a selection here too. Tetris, Grand Theft Auto or Minecraft? Tetris Tetris is the answer. Which bone is commonly known as? The knee cap. What's the actual name for the kneecap? The Patella Patella the Galapagos belongs to which country who owns the Galapagos? Ecuador Ecuador, which continent is the smallest which continent? It's actually Australia. Which part of the digestive system is responsible for absorbing nutrients into the bloodstream? Which part of the digestive system absorbing nutrients into the bloodstream? I yearn, I yearn. And finally a Harry Potter question today, apart from English, what other language can Harry Potter speak? He. Didn't even know it. What language can Harry Potter speak besides English? Parcel tongue parcel tongue is the answer and that is trivia. Here we are. It's the end. That's. The reveal of. The five word challenge today, the words seem to make no sense if you have no idea what category. They're part of, that's. Of a hint. Tell me what the words are now. And then the get off dead center word. If you can't remember any of them right now, how about the one? I wasn't sure how to spell falafel. Tell me the other four if you could think of them now. Did you come up with dig kitchen paddle, **** and falafel? And do you? Know what these words have in common? They're all pickleball terms. Pickleball has taken the world by storm, or at least my part of the world. How about your part of the world? And the reason why I bring up this topic to I don't play pickleball, but I have all these people around me who do. And I hear all these terms. The kitchen and dink. I had never heard of Falafel, so. I'm kind of thinking that one's made-up. You tell me. Is it? I found it on a few websites for pickleball though. Do people use it in common vernacular? It's supposedly a shot that falls short due to hitting the pickleball without enough power, that would be every shot that I would ever hit if I even hit any. Where I recorded my podcast right next door. They have taken down a whole bunch of trees because they are setting up a pickleball court. Actually I. Think 8 of them. And hopefully you scored yourself some points, pickleball points five word challenge points for knowing those pickleball terms today. This is it. We have made it to the end of another episode of Stay Awake while driving. Just like that, we've whiled away a few more miles on the road. And until you and I get a chance. To chat one more time in the future, hopefully. Dr. carefully and take care.
